Joseph William McKenna, Jr

As you already know, Joseph William (Joey) was born on Saturday, January 19. It was the best and worst day! They started me on pitocin at 6am, broke my water and gave me my epidural by 10am. We were going strong and dialated to 4cm around 2 when Joey's heartbeat started to slow down. They took me off of the pitocin and figured that it would be a long time until he arrived. At around 3, the epidural wore off and I felt the worst pains that I had ever felt in my life! I started moving very fast, dialated all the way up to 8 cm by 5. I don't think that the nurses believed me when I said that I was in a ton of pain. Neither did the doctor! My mom got there at 5:30 and saw me acting (as Joe says) like Linda Blair from the Exorcist. Around 6, they measured me and realized that I was fully dialted, but the doctor still wasn't there! Each contraction that I had, I felt that Joey wanted to come out. The nurses told me to stop pushing because my doctor wasn't there! I didn't care...the pain was so bad that I couldn't help but push. At 6:27, Joey came into this world weighing 8 lbs 6 oz and measuring 22 inches. Here is a picture of our handsome little guy:
Unfortunately, he has a little jaundice, so we have to take him for some more bloodwork tomorrow and to see his doctor.

I didn't want to tell you beforehand so you wouldn't worry. I had the same experience during Joseph's birth. He was in distress, the umbillical cord was wrapped around his neck, they told me to turn on my side and it helped, but right after that everything went FAST...the doctor didn't make it either!! and they asked me not to push too!! At that time the births were in a different room so they had to wheel me in a rush to the delivery room and with just two push Joseph 'popped' out...... I guess like father like son... I am sure he is going to be as wonderful as Joseph was as a baby :) Big kiss for the three of you!! Gosh, the four of you, we cannot ignore CeCe now lol

Maria,
He is so beautiful. You can be proud when you pull the blanket off of him (only you know what I'm talking about):-) I wish I were there to hold him. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.
