Coronado Island

This past weekend, we took a trip down to Coronado Island. We stayed at the North Island Navy base hotel, which is right on the beach. It was a last minute trip because getting a room at the hotel is really hard to do because rooms are really cheap and it is right on the beach. So I guess I just got lucky when I called them two weeks ago and they had a cancellation!
We didn't drive down there until Saturday afternoon because I had a hair appointment on Saturday morning. We got to Coronado at around 3 and went straight to the beach. Joey was a little scared at first and he just wasn't sure of the waves and the gross seaweed that HUGE and everywhere! Infact, I couldn't even hang out with them in the water because I couldn't stand the seaweed touching me and wrappping around my ankles! After playing in the water and the sand, we cleaned up and went to meet my cousin Eva who lives in San Diego, along with my Aunt Joanne and her boyfriend Sean. We went to a really good Italian restaurant and enjoyed dinner outside on the patio. Afterwards, we walked around the area and ate ice cream from Coldstone. We didn't get back to the hotel until around 9pm and by then we were all pretty tired!
On Sunday, we woke up and did some shopping and then headed home. It was a really fun weekend and hopefully we will make it down to Coronado/San Diego again really soon!

18 Month Appointment

I was a little late on making Joey's 18 month appointment with the doctor. He got weighed and measured and he is a little over 30lbs and 35 inches tall. Lately we have been getting a lot of suprised faces when we tell people how old Joey is. He is in the 95th percentile for height. So maybe instead of being a swimmer(he doesn't like going underwater) he will be a basketball player?
Some of his favorite words these days are tickle, hi, hot, and CeCe. When we pull into the driveway, he starts saying "CeCeCeCe". Then he runs into the house right past her and gets into his toys. He never stops moving!

What's New...

Not much! Joey and I have been doing our Mom and Tot swimming lessons for the past week and a half. Our last day is Friday. It has gotten a lot better since the first day. Joey now likes to kick and splash in the pool. After swimming everyday, we have to find things to do inside since it is so hot here. The temperatures are over 100 degrees everyday.
Tomorrow, we start another session of Toddler University. Toddler U. is a program that my friend, Dina, started at the Jungle Zone inside play area on base. During Toddler U., Joey and his little friends get to listen to music, dance, play with instruments, balls, scarves, and do a special art project each week. It is held every Thursday for 6 weeks. It is definately an activity that Joey and I look forward to everyweek.
That is all that is going on in our lives. I haven't been taking many pictures recently and I need to start...Joey turned 18 months the other day. I can't believe how fast time is flying by!

Not a little Michael Phelps...

Joey and I started taking "Mom and Tot" swim lessons yesterday. I was so excited because I really thought that Joey was going to love to swim. He is such an active little boy and doesn't really seem to be afraid of anything. He was really excited when we got there but from the second that his body touched the 86 degree pool water, he cried. He cried the whole 20 mintues. He clutched onto me like he has never done before. He had his legs wrapped around my body and his arms wrapped around my neck. When the swim teacher would try to talk to him or throw the ball to him, he would look at her with a scowl. He was not happy. So today when we went back, I tried to get excited even before leaving the house. When I said "Joey, lets get in the car to go to swim lessons!" He ran to the garage. When we got there, he was trying to get into the pool without me. I thought that maybe today would be different. Well, we got into the pool and he assumed his position--legs tightly wrapped around my body and arms wrapped around my neck. Today, though, he didn't scream for the whole 20 minutes, only about 16-17 of the minutes. We have a lesson everyday for 2 weeks so hopefully by next Friday, he will have a little bit of fun?

Wash your lettuce!

I took these two pictures(with my cell phone) last weekend when we were driving home from Monterey. They were taken on the 101, a highway that runs through California, right by the Dole and Fresh Express lettuce fields. Just think; car and truck exhaust is produced on the highway everyday and the lettuce is grown just feet away from thhe highway! Yuck. I will triple wash my lettuce now!

A Trip to Monterey

Last weekend for the Fourth of July, we took a trip north to Monterey, California. We got there on Friday and stayed at a hotel right off of Cannery Row, which is a popular tourist attraction in Monterey. It was also alittle over a mile away from the Fisherman's Wharf. On Saturday morning, we tried to go on a glass bottom boat but the times kept changing and we were afraid of taking a cranky Joey on a boat so instead, we went to the aquarium. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is at the opposite end of Cannery Row from where we stayed, but the distance was less than a mile. We had such a good time there with Joey. They have floor to ceiling glass fish tanks so it feels like you are looking right into the ocean. We saw some really pretty fish. There was one fish in particular that Joey didn't like and he kept swimming back by us. He was big and kinda ugly. Besides the fish tanks, we also saw sea horses, penguins, and sea otters.
Unfortunately we did not get to see fireworks for the Fourth of July because the city of Monterey is too broke and so they cancelled the fireworks this year. I don't think Joey would have liked the loud noise so it really wasn't a huge deal. It was kinda cold there and in the 60's so sitting outside to watch fireworks wasn't something that I was really excited about. But it was nice to get a little change from the 100 degree temperatures that we live with everyday at Edwards! Here are the pictures from our trip: Monterey Pictures.
We came home on Sunday and were all exhaused. I took Joey's temperature on Sunday night because he felt warm to me and he had a 103 degree temperature! We called the doctor on call and he told us to give Joey a bath and some tylenol. Apparently there was a fever going around here and Joey probably got it from playing at the indoor playplace that we go to. His fever went away and then came back a few times and finally by last night he was definately feeling better!
Joe was supposed to leave yesterday to go to Shreveport until Saturday. He made the 2 hour drive to LAX only to find out 30 minutes before the flight was to leave that he didn't have to go anymore. So he turned around and drove the 2 hours back home. We were so happy to have him back with us last night!
